The winter transfer market is typically a time of significant speculation and potential big-money moves. A number of notable footballers are being linked with moves away from their present teams. Here is a look at some of the major figures that are poised to be changing clubs this month.

Antoine Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' inability to reach the AFCON, which has kept the player available, reports suggest an important move is close. This 25-year-old has a contract with a £65 million release clause applicable for a brief window in early January. Latest reports suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Other interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to alternative targets, leaving clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late move.

Marc Guéhi

This England centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract set to run out in the close season, January is the club's last opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their captain. A host of top clubs, such as City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to be interested. However, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh winger has had first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this campaign. Despite being the club's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has started only a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the London club is willing to consider a transfer for the correct price, thought to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

This Portuguese playmaker could be poised for a comeback to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Still only twenty-eight, and with his contract ending in the summer, he is a possible bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he would be prepared to take a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under the manager Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and undergone surgery, a winter exit looks increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The prolific England centre-forward has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his fading hopes of making the national squad. However, arranging a deal poses significant hurdles. His current club are reluctant to sell him, and his reported enormous salary make any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

This energetic midfielder attracted widespread interest in the summer but remained at Atlético Madrid. With limited starting appearances in Spain this season, he is keen to secure more minutes ahead of the tournament. United have been strongly connected, and a return to Selhurst Park, where he excelled on a temporary deal, remains a option, though financial constraints could be a problem.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, this young midfielder has struggled for game time during his loan spell at Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move will not become permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding playing for multiple teams in a campaign, a move back to his parent club prior to next summer seems to be the only viable solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. As his existing contract running down, many Premier League sides – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are eager to secure the youngster to a new long-term contract but face a race to keep one of Europe's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a major move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
